Let me just go ahead and address this issue before it gets out of hand. Pushing a button on a wireless controller to fake-shoot pixelated representations of human beings in no way grants me the training necessary to fire real world weapons nor does it grant me the predisposition to want to harm human beings in real life.
So all this bullshit about blaming gamers for all the various school shootings and other heinous shootings/massacres in recent history is nonsense. But it’s fine, we’ll be your convenient scapegoat rather than force the world to hold parents accountable for the value systems they impart on their wayward children.
Every generation needs a scapegoat right? In the seventies it was rock and roll, the eighties, violence in movies. The nineties through today, every piece of sick, twisted cacaholery to hit the news was blamed on gaming, from the Oklahoma City bombing, to Columbine, Virginia Tech and now Newtown Connecticut.
Good thing video gaming wasn’t around during the forties or they’d have pinned the Holocaust on us too. There are sick people out there folks, but trust me, violent video games don’t have a shit to do with it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m grieved and extremely dismayed by the events in Connecticut last Friday, I pray everyday for those lost souls. All I’m saying is don’t be so hasty to point fingers.
